report on my feelings about this report

In the first few lines I felt amused, then as I read on I felt wary, concerned about being baited. The I felt sad and glad that I'm not a man subject to this kind of oppression. The person I got it from at work was initially hesitant to let me see it, thinking I would be offended. I felt puzzled by that, since I'm not a man. No, it just makes me very sad for them.

  1. I think the author’s intentions can be inferred from the repeated use of “mommy” and the diminutives, girl, girly, baby and references to diapers. His criticism seems to be levied at the immaturity of certain displays of ‘feelings.’

I think he’s trying to say that emotional maturity is manly, not childish.

That his argument is itself emotionally immature deepens the joke even as it discredits the validity of the premise.

  2. This would be a challenging work environment for anyone. Feelings are signs of weakness, and weakness is associated with women, queers and, yes, children. It does seem to suggest that a "real" man is above all that and those "others". That creates an unlevel playing field for everyone, including men. No one should be diminished like this. Sometimes feelings really do need to be heard. This could even be seen as a silencing tactic by authority figures.

  3. yes, rough for the guys too.

I think the general population believes that feelings are signs of weakness. But that doesn't appear to me as the be all end all truth.

I think of feelings as data, not as weakness. I think my sensitivities give me access to more information. If you think of Diana Troy on Star Trek, she is a sensitive person, but not a whiner at all. She very strong and capable.

There are SO many Macho men in the construction industry who bitch bitch bitch, moan and groan, complain and blame everyone around them for their difficulties. Just cause they do it with fire, they think they aren't whining. They throw away their personal power and responsibility by blaming others.

about the silencing by authorities. definitely so.

I was told by each of three levels above me that an apprentice should shut up and keep their eyes open. A career marine agreed, said it was good advice for him. What was he defending if not his own first amendment right? I think NOT speaking up in the face of oppression is dishonoring those who fought for that right for me. but I can only say that here. not at work. speak only when I am spoken to. : (
